CAPOEIRA
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that incorporates dance, self-defense, and acrobatics. It was created by enslaved people of African descent in Brazil.
The program is offered by GRUPO ONDAS (Pangaea Arts) which was formally added to the New Wave schedule in 2000 by Mestre Tigri (the first Capoeira Mestre of Cape Verdean descent). Ondas remains the only Capoeira group in RI.

KENPO KARATE
Kenpo Karate is a mixture of modern Chinese and Japanese martial arts.
NEW WAVE KENPO was established in 1985 by Shihan Kugel who remains a visiting master instructor & guide. This is the original program of of New Wave Martial Arts & Fitness.

JUDO
Judo originated in 1882 from various martial arts including Jiu-Jitsu. It became the first martial art in the Olympics in 1964.
SHIO JUDO provides the framework of the Judo Program at New Wave. It was established by Sensei Jhomphy Ventura in 2016 and is one of few program teaching Judo in the state.

KICKBOXING
Our Kickboxing program is the Sanshou (aka Sanda) system which is a combat sport developed by the Chinese based upon Kung Fu and modern combat fighting techniques of full-contact.
The FĒNGBÀO SANSHOU program was established by Sifu Tigri in 2005 to help preserve this intricate combat style.

TAE KWON DO
Tae Kwon Do is an Olympic Sport from Korea that incorporates explosive speed and intricate kicking play.
The Impact Tae Kwon Do curriculum was created by Master Craig Brown, who has been a member of the Jamaican and British national teams, and experience in the olympics.
